Things to do in London this September

What? ‘Summer is over!’ you cry out loud?! Fear not! There are still amazing things to do in the great city of London (and around) this September. I know the weather hasn’t been our bestest friend at the moment, but on a brighter note, with the kids back to school, it’s less crowded.

So here’s a list of some awesome stuff you can do or go to at this time of year:

1. Southbank Centre’s Festival of Love Beach

So Southbank Centre’s popular riverside urban beach ‘Festival of Love Beach’ continues on until 14th September. Alright alright alright… I know with the sun playing peek-a-boo behind the clouds lately, you probably might not be able to tan in this weather, but chilling with friends, maybe with a picnic and your feet in the sand along with the picturesque view of the Thame River can still be done!

2. Totally Thames

Have you noticed the Hippo in the Thames River? No? If not, you’re probably thinking I’m talking complete nonsense right now. But I’m not! I swear! There ‘is’ a hippo swimming the Thames. Okay maybe not a real one. But a large sculptured hippo designed by a Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman to celebrate the Totally Thames events held throughout September. It was particularly designed to fire up conversations and to distract people from their monotonous busy day-to-day lives. Well, it’s definitely got me talking about it! You’d probably be thinking a hippo is a bit random. Well it’s not as random as you may think. Artist Florentijn Hofman did his research well and discovered there actually used be hippo swimming up and down the Thames donkey’s hippo’s years back!

[UPDATE 09-09-14 : You can read about my experience in meeting the hippo here]

The Totally Thames events include river races, art exhibitions, and historic walks to name a few, as well as free, yes.. FREE outdoor cinema with the best view of London by Tower Bridge. So grab your other half, bring a blanket and some popcorn and grab a seat and snuggle up before all the seats have been taken up!

3. Free Adult Entry at UK’s Top attractions

It’s back and is still going. Kellogg’s are still giving away FREE adult entry vouchers on their cereals boxes. Well it’s free when accompanied with a full paying child or adult. But as mentioned, with the kids back at school, there should be a decrease in queue lines in the rides at the theme parks!  The voucher can be used in some of UK’s Top attractions such as Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures, Madame Tussauds, Legoland, Warwick Castle, and Alton Towers to name a few. So collect a bunch of these vouchers (you might need to eat a lot of cereals in the process) and group up some friends to bring out the kid in you!

4. Dining In The Sky with Michelin-Starred Chefs

Believe it or not, but yes that’s a restaurant hovering sky-high over the city of London (found in picture below). Now if you’re scared of heights and got a sensitive stomach, I’d probably give this a miss. It is a bit pricey, but for what it is, I reckon it would be an exciting experience. Floating 100 feet high, with top Chefs serving some of their finest dishes together with the view of London sky-high and a violinist to set the mood. Now how often would you be able to say you experienced that?! The only thing that concerns me is what happens if you need to go to the toilet…?
